::MAC Fall 2011::

M A C

http://maccosmetics.com/
When people hear the word MAC, 8 out of 10 clients think MAC Cosmetics.

MAC Cosmetics.
Toronto Canada
One of my many jobs in my 16 years of professional makeup artistry.  I worked on counter and freelance in 2006.  In my 20's when I was the Department Manager of all of Cosmetics at Northgate Nordstrom, we went through a remodel.  I was the DM when we opened the outside installation directly outside of Nordstrom across from the E BAR.  One of my favorite things is opening a new store and seeing it thrive.  Seeing things/people/places GROW is phenomenol to me.  It is very rewarding.  That is how I ended up with over 6 full sized MAC display units..I LOVE IT!  Even though I work for a different company now which I LOVE, I have been an avid MAC user for years.  I've trained and sold MAC in the 10 years I was with Nordstrom.  I have an appreciation for the brand and company, the message they deliver, and most of all the GIVING BACK causes they support and their BACK to MAC recycling program is one of the most innovative causes yet.  I support their recycling program immensely.  Bring back 6 empty containers, receive a free lipstick ($14) value to any MAC counter, and at the UVILL MAC boutique, choose a lipstick, lipgloss, or an eyeshadow.
One of the leading brands out there.  A company that delivers edgy, fearless, heavy pigmented makeup at a reasonable department store price.
It is available at their own MAC boutique in University Village.  It is at all Nordstrom's.  It is in various Macy's doors (not in certain WA doors due to a Nordstrom contract.)

My main mission was to write a quick blog on their Fall casing.  What do you think?  Then I got on this whole other rampage.  I can write more on the developments, product knowledge, and marketing programs, but I don't have the time or patience today..LOL

So here it is.
What do you think of this casing?
The silver, clear, NON BLACK image that MAC stands for..Feeling Frosty this holiday season?
I'm not sure what I think yet.  I'll post this on FB for thoughts/feedback/concerns..

Love and am passionate about products, people, and learning about people's views and insight..

I should have stuck to my sociology and psych minor.  Hmmmm

Here it comes! A sparkling lineup of everything a stylish snow queen desires! Snowglobe-inspired compacts, side by side with future-chic gift sets that satisfy your lust for M∙A∙C Holiday. Wish list ready! Let the parade begin! Limited edition.

::Creating Connections::

::Creating Connections::

Connections.  I believe every soul wants to be connected to someone or something in this world.  We all want to be a part of something or belong to something.  If we are out of place or our element, we feel it.

I am blessed to make connections every day.  Wearing more than 10 hats, I can say that creating connections keeps my motivation and inspiration going.  Successful businesses strive to build relationships and maintain them.  I have been successful at my PASSION for over 16 years due to having a strong core network and being open to building many different connections on various levels.

Given a second chance at life, I am truly honored to inspire others.  Many friends/acquaintances reach out to me on a daily basis for support, inquisitions, and advice.  They wonder where I get my positivity from.  Is it a fasade or real?  I strive to be a better person every day and giving back to my family, friends, and community is such a great feeling.  Many people don't get second chances, and being adopted into a fabulous core of a family who supports and loves me is truly a blessing.

There has been much talk bout Cancer recently.  My 12 year old Son's good friend Sophia (12yrs) has been recently diagnosed with Spinal Cancer.  My Dad's old colleage has recently died of Cancer.  If Cancer hasn't affected you at some point in your life, it will.  You will know someone or know of someone's someone.

I recently met and worked with Jan.  Mother of 2 and being a Single Mother with 2 jobs and a smile on her face was truly admirable.  She is in remission.  She never wore a ton of makeup, if at all.  I connected with Jan instantly and I can say after her "makeunder", we went over to the mirror and the tears in her eyes of joy is one of the best feelings and why I do my "job" each day.  I am lucky to be doing my passion and not only working and living it, but really meeting clients like Jan.  Every one struggles.  It's through perserverance and attitude that makes the difference.  I was only one small part of making her smile that day.  I always thought I would've been a great teacher or nurse.  Well I teach women how to apply makeup every day through their individual lifestyle and custom fit based on their needs.  I am also a nurse to my Son every day..LOL

So when you are having a "bad" day, just remember there are a billion others who have it far worse than you.  Surround yourself with positive people.  If they aren't bringing "light" into your life, then what are YOU doing?  You are who you put up with.  You are in control of your own destiny and attitude.  Sure we all have our "bad" days, but waking up every day should be a blessing.  I walk into one of my jobs and see "elders" walking the mall.  They walk, talk, act slow.  I will slow down when I am forced to.  Time is money.  I think that many people aren't given a second chance, but when we grow wise, we often ask for "more time."  If you had two minutes left in life, can you honestly say you made a difference in the world and did your "best"?  Can you live with no regrets?  Can you empower others and really LIVE through ACTION to be the best soul you are?  Or are you a waste of skin?  I believe we all have a passion and have some sort of intelligence or passion..The difference is some of us use our strengths, work on our opportunities and keep pushing forward.

Think about it.  Creating Connections is truly an art form..Keep an open mind, don't pass judgement and just see how far you can reach.

::Lotta Lashes::

lashes...period...

A simple touch..LASHES!!..real, fake, extensions, lash prescription treatments, & tons of mascara choices!  It's all about the lashes!

It is the most simple addition to any natural or dramatic eye.  It truly opens up the eye like you wouldn't believe.  Add a strip to finish off any eye makeup application..Add any singles or flares to the corner of the eye for a romantic look.

Latisse & Revitalash are to promote lash growth.  Latisse is a prescribed medication & Revitalash can be found at Gene Juarez..See Shanie at the Downtown Gene Juarez for assistance..It was founded by a eye DR. who's wife was diagnosed with Cancer.  He revolutionized a start of a lash phenomenon.  I rub my eyes to much so I haven't tried this.  It retails for $150 but is a 6 month supply.. (think of how much money you spend on coffee per month)

I personally like to add the semi permanent ones at my discretion.  I can take them off at night and re use them by removing the glue.  If you fall asleep in them over a drunken stupor, they do NOT last..LOL...however, I've used the same pair up to a few weeks use! MAC, Shu Uemura, & some brands at the department stores ARE FABULOUS, however I feel that they are overrated.  Go to Walgreen's, Target, Rite Aid, Sally's Beauty Supply, and purchase Ardell or ModLash.  I've even bought some @ the Asian Dollar Store Daiso in Alderwood Mall for $1.50. Yes, for the real doll like look, the Daiso ones are iight and do the job!

For the lash extensions that last 3 weeks, they are spendy but worth it if you are a ride or die lash lover.  My friend's Patti Belle & Dana Croft had these put on before their wedding day and created such a romantic look.  You need to go and get them refilled every 3 weeks..Kimberlee Bell is AMAZING..she says if extensions are done properly, lash by lash, will not affect your natural lashes as long as you don't pull or play with them.  Extensions are equal to about 3 coats of mascara.  A full set takes 2-2.5 hours and fills take an hour.  Kimberlee charges bout $185 for a full set and $58 for fills.  Call Dina S. Good Salon to book her in Belltown..206.462.6628..

I will discuss lash builder & mascara at a later blog, but some faves are Bare Escentuals Curl & Lengthen, Lancome Hypnose, and of course Dior Show..

Apply lashes with the one and only DUO glue.  It also comes in waterproof.  Glue does come in a black but if done properly, the white will dry clear.  Do not use any other glue..believe me I've tried them all.

To apply your own lashes:
Apply all eye primer, eye shadow, liner, etc.
Curl lashes
While looking DOWN at a mirror, measure the false lash to your lash
If needed trim the lash at the longest part (Asian eyes feel more comfortable w/trimmed lashes)
Use a toothpick for beginners or a steady hand and apply glue at the base of the lash.
Bend the lash and blow on the lash to get the glue tacky
Apply lash as close to the natural lash as possible
Let dry
Apply additional gel liner over any remaining glue
Apply Mascara to REAL LASHES only..
Practice makes perfect!

I forgot to mention..if you aren't confident and want to have an Artist apply them, ask me -Jaime Hansen  jhmakeupartist.com  OR
if you buy them at MAC they will apply them for you!  I recommend you saving money and becoming the PRO that I know is WITHIN YOU.

Good Luck Lash Lovlies!  I believe in YOU~

::BLUSH!!!!::

::BLUSH::

What makes you blush?  Is it that first kiss?  Is it an embarrassing moment?

"A BLUSH is modesty's first impulse and sophistication's afterthought"

I love when women have the "just pinched look" on their cheeks.  The natural glow.  Most makeup artists prefer a cream blush over a powder as it has longer staying power, especially in HOT climates.  I love ANY and all blush.

Women in their teens & 20's focus solely on their eyes.  After 30, we wear less and less.  Women's allergies and sensitivities grow and they tend to wear less on their eyes.  Their focus shifts to skincare, cheeks, and lips.

Swap a little color on the apples or just above the apples of the cheeks up into the temples.  Apply foundation, bronzer where the sun hits, BLUSH, and then a finishing powder to set.  You can add a highlighter on the orbital bone when you feel like a little shimmer.

Here are a few of my faves:

Narscosmetics.com
Orgasm
$27.00

pauladorf.com
"Cha Cha" cream blush

I use Bare Escentual's "Laughter", "Vintage Peach", "Fruit Cocktail", and a few MAC blushes as well.

::Summer's Shimmer::

::Summer's Shimmer::

One of my ALL TIME faves::
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick!

Gearing up for Summer..(yes in Seattle, it has just began), shimmer is in the air.

Sweep on the cheekbones, or as a highligher under the brow bone..I do BOTH!  Use as a topical shimmer on top of lipstick as well..

There is even a body one!

Available in 5 different colors; Pink Quartz, Nectar, Rose, Bronze (my fave), & Beige.

bobbibrown.com
$39 and totally worth it!

I really love the look of when you see someone turn their cheek and it just glistens.  Applying on the decollete can really enhance a women's skintone.

See this video on Bobbi's application..
http://www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com/learn/video.tmpl?video=facecolor

This is a STAPLE in my makeup wardrobe and should be in every woman's!

It even comes in a set..note: the synthetic brush is key..

Happy Summer!!

I met Michelle through a mutual friend Patti Belle, who's wedding I had done last October..Shout out to Patti :)  Congrats Patti & Ron on your beautiful new baby girl Lucia..:)

After the first phone call, we instantly connected.. We had her makeup trial a few weeks out.  She poured me a glass of a fine red.  Her fiance Kent continued to spoil us with more wine, bruschetta, and the BEST olives I've ever tasted..What a fun makeup run!  Thank you so much for spoiling me..What a treat!

I did the makeup for the Bride Michelle, 3 of her bridesmaids, and a touch up on the Hostess..which happened to be my friend Stacy's Stepmom who I recognized right off the bat!  SMALL WORLD.

This was such a fun experience and here's a couple sneak pics.  I will post the professional ones soon!
Thank you Michelle for such a classy wedding..Your vivaciousness and laughter is contagious and you are genuinely a warm spirit..Meeting new people and making new friends is simply the best part of my "job."

What a beautiful bride!!!  She was picture perfect and beautiful inside and out..Congratulations Michelle & Kent!!  Best wishes for an AMAZING future together!

::Inspired::

Today..I am INSPIRED..

Beyonce does it again.. watch below. Pay close attention to what she says in the beginning and the end...

http://youtu.be/3vXXiku0580

As an Artist, being inspired by other Artists, I get through various spurts of inspiration.  I often times find it difficult for more creative inpiration, and some other times it can be such a simple thing such as a smile from my Son.  Beyonce exudes beauty, hard work, drive, ambition, humbleness, and such a special, rare talent as a creative artist who inspires me to be fashion forward in my ART.  I always have said LOVE what you do..Do what you LOVE.  Accept nothing less.  I never want to get to a place that I am stagnant and don't want to be doing what I don't want to do.  She brings such empowerment as a woman, friend, daughter and soul.  I will always follow my heart.  "I don't want to miss out on making memories."  She took a year off and I reward her for that in the most honorable way.

For those who KNOW me, I've been in hiding.  Some may blame it on Fall/Winter.  I call it "hermit crab mode."
 I have not blogged in over a month.  Working 3 jobs that I love and having a 12 year old son who has his own career, I choose to live this LIFE.  I decided to take a step back.  I have taken a break from friends, acquaintances, social media and wanting to do it all.  I was feeling overwhelmed and didn't want to miss out on LIVING..really LIVING.  I work as hard as I do, so I can play as hard as I do.  Well now I'm BACK!

June 1-6th, Tyas and I had a once in a lifetime opportunity.  SMG sent the two of us on an all paid trip to LA.  Tyas was booked for his biggest gig yet.  Microsoft chose him and 5 other kids out of 3000 from Seattle to LA to demo the new Kinect games for the E3 Conference.  Tyas was one of 4 that was chosen to perform in front of 3000+ media and press.  I am so proud of his hard work and humbleness over the last 6 years at Seattle Model's Guild.
smgmodels.com  ( T for Tyas)
We had the most fun and gained special new friends from this experience.  Shout out to Tyas, Christian, Karlie, Kobi, Jake, Teya, the supportive parents, Rock & Beverly with rba productions, Jeff & Chanda with Ten Gun Design, Seattle Model's Guild, & Microsoft.
You tube "Microsoft Kinect Disneyland E3" and you will see my Son.

Coming out of my busiest month in June, from castings with Tyas and bookings for Nordstrom, Amazon, & his new Pokemon board game, to all of my jobs, I am taking a time out to just live.  I have no one to impress.  I follow my heart every day and be the best Mom I know how to be.  Being 98% optimistic, I deserve the 2% of hermit crab time.  I believe it's not just hermit crab mode. It's throwing my sweats on and watching a movie with Tyas.  Where in the world did we come to rely on social media instead of real live visits with friends/family?  I love technology to the FULLEST, however leave your cell at home for the day..I did today and it felt GREAT! Headed to the Ocean tomorrow to melt my feet in the ocean and bury my toes in the sand while watching Tyas swim and grow up.

::It's OFFICIAL::

It's OFFICIAL...  I created my own website!! A month ago, I bought my first domain.  After 16 years of makeup artistry, I've grown success only through word of mouth and Facebook.  Can you imagine the endless possibities NOW? Can I get an AMEN!!

For years, I've researched graphic designers and seeked out help from friends/peers.  I got no where!  I took it in my own hands and was inspired by my 16 year old nephew Jordan to create a free one on weebly.com.  I, a self learner at heart, spent nights configuring different pics that I wanted up and how I wanted to represent ME and my ART.

So here it is..created by yours truly..ME..I can say however, it is so rewarding finishing a project that I've wanted for years and executed by MYSELF.  It feels so good.  By all means this is just the start of my site.  Enjoy~

Check it out.

Fresh Start

Start over by a FRESH START!....

End poor skincare routines..
Say "Bye Bye" to dull, irritated, dry skin...  BUUU-BYE!!!!

AM: Cleanse, Moisturize, Eye Cream (add additional preventative serums such as preventative, age spots, lines)

PM: Cleanse, Anti-Aging Serum, Eye Cream, MOISTURIZE..

this is what's in my cabinet right now..no, I did not pay the $145 for it..it's called working for Cosmetics, FREE GRATIS!!!

Mask as necessary..I don't use a mask often, but was inspired last night when I went to drop of my Son at a friend's house.  The friend's Mom came out with a FULL ON MASK!..Nothing better for a Friday night except maybe masking with a glass of wine?  I recommend picking a day of the week..Lazy Sunday's are good for your "mask day" when your hubby has the game on.

Tip: Oily Skin needs moisture...NEEDS WATER...let me repeat that..Oily skin needs moisture..Oily skin types need water and hydration with a moisturizer not just all the oil that comes along with them.

Drink water..tons of water..hydrate..hydrate..hydrate..

Your skin is the LARGEST organ on your body.  Please take a FRESH START... start and finish your day with MOISTURIZER!! --Please and Thank You...:)

oh and Men..Moisturizer is not just for women..STOP moisturizing your beautiful 5 o'clock shadow with that Vaseline body lotion crap..

Start over..begin with a FRESH START!

::Essential piece to your makeup wardrobe; Eye Primers::

Eye Primers

Eye Primers...Lately, I've been asked a ton of questions and inquiries regarding primers.  I remember applying makeup to my best friend Dara in Junior High School.  I knew nothing of the sort.  It's not until the late 90's when I discovered eye primers.  I have never been so much in love since this beautiful relationship with this product started.  There are Face Primers as well but that is a whole other blog.

What is an Eye Primer?
It is a creamy eyeshadow base that prevents creasing, increases longer wearability, improves the intensity of the shadow and makes for an all over even canvas before applying eye shadow.  They come in neutrals and plenty of different shades and textures.  Below are a few of my faves.  I DO NOT wear an eyeshadow without EYE PRIMER.  On my days off, I usually don't wear much makeup, if at all.  I know, (and I am a Makeup Artist).  :)  On lazy days, wearing a shimmery eye primer can add some brightness to the eye and can be used alone or under eyeshadows.

I recommend....these are the most versatile..start with a neutral first!!!

Paint Pot
"Painterly"
$16.50
"Buff"
$24.50

You can apply these beautiful primers with your fingers, HOWEVER your fingers have natural oils that can interfere with the blendability.  I absolutely LOVE a synthetic flat brush like this one.

242 Shader Brush
$24.50

OR...

252 Large Shader Brush
$30.00

So add this product to  your makeup wardrobe..You will NOT regret it..Oily eyelids benefit from this the most.  Trust...Your eyeshadow will stay on all day without touch ups.

Why wait?  Go out there and buy one today...this is a staple and a need vs. want.

GET PRIMIN'!!!

::Stacy & Craig::

Stacy & Craig's wedding
The Ruins
Makeup:  Jaime Hansen
Photography: Clane Gessel

 Clane Gessel captured every beautiful essence of Stacy.

 Love is patient
Love is kind
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Congrats Stacy & Craig
One of my favorite weddings to date!
