::Simplifying::

::Simplifying::

As some of you have known, for years now I've been simplifying my life in many ways.. Being in Cosmetics for 19 years professionally can be rewarding with so many free products, samples, testers, and free gratis.. ...period..A lot of discounts, perks, pro discounts etc.

This blog will be short and sweet...Consolidating 24 lipsticks into a palette sounds easy? No, it's tedious, time consuming, and luckily my Mom is in town to assist me.  Here's the progression minus the microwave picture...

Now only 10 more to go...They aren't as perfect as I wanted them but after working all day I'll let it go for tonight.  At least I threw away 24 misc tubes and all of these colors will be for my kit...
All colors are Lancome & Clinique for these two palettes..

Happy Simplifying

Live the life you've always imagined

Hello.  Thanks for stopping by.  For the short version, go to www.jhmakeupartist.com for my quick Bio.

Here's how my story began....
I grew up watching my Mom beautify women and men being a hairstylist. After she adopted my Sister and I, she left the salon and started her own business in our basement.  She had just adopted us two girls from Korea, all the while already having two of her biological Sons and a high school sweetheart for a husband.  She cut, styled, colored, frosted, and even permed her clients.  I know she loved her passion all the while 40 years later never raising her prices.  She didn't do it for the money.  She loved her craft.  She is the creative genius in our family and pretty much in the universe. Sometimes I think she makes Martha Stewart look bad..Seeing her clients faces after they were out of the chair with that extra glow and boost of confidence was when I knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry.
I didn't really learn how to apply makeup from my Mom however. She was and still is a minimalist.  I read the magazines and starting applying makeup on my friends in elementary school.  I continued to do hair and makeup in Junior high and so on for dances and proms.  Attending Cosmetology school, holding 4 part time jobs, and having a 3.8 GPA my Senior year kept me busy.  I had initially wanted to do hair.  I had worked my ass of my Freshman and Sophmore year all the while to maintain my high honors GPA and have only 4 classes my Senior year.
I was in a major car accident and broke 2 discs in my spine after being in Cosmetology school for I believe 6 months.  Dropped out, took a year off and worked and partied.  Went back to Cosmetology school and when I had 200 hours out of my 1200 hours to complete, I got pregnant. I never went back. So needless to say I am a beauty school dropout. LOL

Attending Shoreline Community College, I took business, Sociology, and Psychology classes.  After Tyas was born I worked various jobs and went back to work within one month.  I then started at Nordstrom when he was 8 months old.  I started in the kids dept and spent way too much $$$ on his clothes.. STILL DO!  I moved down to the Clinique counter and within one 9 months I was promoted to Counter Manager.  Within one year, I was awarded the top Clinique Sales Associate for all of WA, OR, and AK.  I received a big ol white Clinique robe, Tifffany earrings, and some puffy slippers.  I then continued to get skincare and fragrance certified at Nordstrom.  I worked for MAC and then moved my way up to Managing the entire Cosmetics Dept at Northgate and was and Assistant Mgr of Downtown and Bellevue, WA.  I was with Nordstrom off and on for 10 years, leaving and coming back as just a MUA at the exact Nordstrom I managed.  I left to be an Account Coordinator and then Executive for Lancome Cosmetics.
Being a MUA, I've been blessed for working for smgmodels.com, Seattle Fashion week, fashion/editorial shoots, different photographers, personal consultations, Bare Escentuals, Gene Juarez, Elite Collective, and now myself.

Creating beauty from within started from the time I was born.  I learned at a young age, it starts from within.  I am now building my business more than ever, and continue to work and learn on my craft every day.  I believe you can never perfect your craft. Keep current and learn something new everyday.  Stay motivated, stay in your zone EVERY single day.

I learned over the years "your title doesn't define you..YOU define you."

I have now been in the industry going on my 19th year professionally.  So pretty much all my life. I don't know everything, but I know this.  EVERY single thing happens for a reason.  I thank my Mom, Beckie for the raw creative talent that she passed on to me.  I thank God for this every day.

Live the life you've always imagined..

Live your passion, and your true success whatever that may be, will follow.

::New Card Design::

Business cards are the first impression of your art/craft...

Alexis Chicoye created and designed my new cards months and months ago. Been busy with work, so here they are:  Her turnaround was so efficient and I love them!

I have always been the one to know exactly what I want/don't want.  Alexis was able to capture my design by not only knowing me personally but she just simply "got it."  Thanks Lex for taking your time and it is the best money I've spent in a long time.  I appreciate it..Your professionalism is top tier babe!
Thanks again,

It's been 3 months..

It's been 3 months since I've written anything.  Time has it's way of passing you by.  I am in the middle of transferring all of my makeup to palettes..Here is the latest..MAC eyeshadows were first, now onto Lancome & Stila..It's alot of work, but I find it somehow calming and zen like while doing this.  Here is the process and I will update my final palette pics when done.

DEPOTTING!

I love Stila's quotes in the LIDS:)

Check out these vids on how to depot.  I used a votive candle for heat.  Some use a non heat version like this.

Some use a flat iron for heat:

but I did it this way:  PLEASE watch so you can see all the torture I went through will all of these..

I DID NOT use a knife..
These tools came in handy.  Thanks to my Dad & Mom, I have a lil tool set.  Every Woman should invest in one.  A lil mini screw driver was my bff in this process.

Part of my MAC shadows on my MAC unit BEFORE....

and I still have a ways to go...
Hope this helps anyone who is trying to organize their makeup collection and or minimize space.  It is a LONG journey, but will be so FENG Shui in the end.

Happy Spring Cleaning!

::BE my Valentine::

I BELIEVE Love conquers all.. I BElieve you should show LOVE every day, not just one. I believe in showing and telling someone how you care. This flower giving, chocolate giving, gift giving, reason for spending $$$ on a random "holiday" is what it is. I'm staying in again this year cooking for loved ones. Going to sushi on Friday was a treat in itself. Missing the crowds was truly a gift. For you non lovers out there, I believe this holiday was put on the calendar for you as a reminder. To my loved ones, Happy LOVE day!... As you know, I tell you and show you on a regular basis though and don't need 2/14 to remind me..:)

As for your beauty buzz...
What is your favorite Valentine lip? Is it a matte red or a pale pink sheer glossy lip?

Bummer. This is my first blog from my iPhone and I can't upload any cute pics.. Owell next time..
Happy Love Day..
I just bought chocolate covered strawberries & what a nice meal I have planned:)

::Favorite Eyeliner::

My favorite eyeliner of all time is.....

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner.  It is long wearing and water resistant.  It is a creamy, non smudging formula.  I recommend this for the top lashline only as I use a pencil for the bottom lashline.

::Inner Beauty::

Inner Beauty

Inner beauty shines and radiates from within. Healing yourself and eliminating all toxins will shine through to your outer beauty.
Start with learning to LOVE yourself. It's harder than it sounds.. When you look in the mirror, what does your reflection say back to you? Are you a good person? Do you give more than you receive? Are you selfless? Are you making the world a better place to live? Are you helping others around you? Are you compassionate and empathetic?

Meditate | Read | Write

Time to reflect on the inner you..

::MAC Fall 2011::

M A C

http://maccosmetics.com/
When people hear the word MAC, 8 out of 10 clients think MAC Cosmetics.

MAC Cosmetics.
Toronto Canada
One of my many jobs in my 16 years of professional makeup artistry.  I worked on counter and freelance in 2006.  In my 20's when I was the Department Manager of all of Cosmetics at Northgate Nordstrom, we went through a remodel.  I was the DM when we opened the outside installation directly outside of Nordstrom across from the E BAR.  One of my favorite things is opening a new store and seeing it thrive.  Seeing things/people/places GROW is phenomenol to me.  It is very rewarding.  That is how I ended up with over 6 full sized MAC display units..I LOVE IT!  Even though I work for a different company now which I LOVE, I have been an avid MAC user for years.  I've trained and sold MAC in the 10 years I was with Nordstrom.  I have an appreciation for the brand and company, the message they deliver, and most of all the GIVING BACK causes they support and their BACK to MAC recycling program is one of the most innovative causes yet.  I support their recycling program immensely.  Bring back 6 empty containers, receive a free lipstick ($14) value to any MAC counter, and at the UVILL MAC boutique, choose a lipstick, lipgloss, or an eyeshadow.
One of the leading brands out there.  A company that delivers edgy, fearless, heavy pigmented makeup at a reasonable department store price.
It is available at their own MAC boutique in University Village.  It is at all Nordstrom's.  It is in various Macy's doors (not in certain WA doors due to a Nordstrom contract.)

My main mission was to write a quick blog on their Fall casing.  What do you think?  Then I got on this whole other rampage.  I can write more on the developments, product knowledge, and marketing programs, but I don't have the time or patience today..LOL

So here it is.
What do you think of this casing?
The silver, clear, NON BLACK image that MAC stands for..Feeling Frosty this holiday season?
I'm not sure what I think yet.  I'll post this on FB for thoughts/feedback/concerns..

Love and am passionate about products, people, and learning about people's views and insight..

I should have stuck to my sociology and psych minor.  Hmmmm

Here it comes! A sparkling lineup of everything a stylish snow queen desires! Snowglobe-inspired compacts, side by side with future-chic gift sets that satisfy your lust for M∙A∙C Holiday. Wish list ready! Let the parade begin! Limited edition.

::Creating Connections::

::Creating Connections::

Connections.  I believe every soul wants to be connected to someone or something in this world.  We all want to be a part of something or belong to something.  If we are out of place or our element, we feel it.

I am blessed to make connections every day.  Wearing more than 10 hats, I can say that creating connections keeps my motivation and inspiration going.  Successful businesses strive to build relationships and maintain them.  I have been successful at my PASSION for over 16 years due to having a strong core network and being open to building many different connections on various levels.

Given a second chance at life, I am truly honored to inspire others.  Many friends/acquaintances reach out to me on a daily basis for support, inquisitions, and advice.  They wonder where I get my positivity from.  Is it a fasade or real?  I strive to be a better person every day and giving back to my family, friends, and community is such a great feeling.  Many people don't get second chances, and being adopted into a fabulous core of a family who supports and loves me is truly a blessing.

There has been much talk bout Cancer recently.  My 12 year old Son's good friend Sophia (12yrs) has been recently diagnosed with Spinal Cancer.  My Dad's old colleage has recently died of Cancer.  If Cancer hasn't affected you at some point in your life, it will.  You will know someone or know of someone's someone.

I recently met and worked with Jan.  Mother of 2 and being a Single Mother with 2 jobs and a smile on her face was truly admirable.  She is in remission.  She never wore a ton of makeup, if at all.  I connected with Jan instantly and I can say after her "makeunder", we went over to the mirror and the tears in her eyes of joy is one of the best feelings and why I do my "job" each day.  I am lucky to be doing my passion and not only working and living it, but really meeting clients like Jan.  Every one struggles.  It's through perserverance and attitude that makes the difference.  I was only one small part of making her smile that day.  I always thought I would've been a great teacher or nurse.  Well I teach women how to apply makeup every day through their individual lifestyle and custom fit based on their needs.  I am also a nurse to my Son every day..LOL

So when you are having a "bad" day, just remember there are a billion others who have it far worse than you.  Surround yourself with positive people.  If they aren't bringing "light" into your life, then what are YOU doing?  You are who you put up with.  You are in control of your own destiny and attitude.  Sure we all have our "bad" days, but waking up every day should be a blessing.  I walk into one of my jobs and see "elders" walking the mall.  They walk, talk, act slow.  I will slow down when I am forced to.  Time is money.  I think that many people aren't given a second chance, but when we grow wise, we often ask for "more time."  If you had two minutes left in life, can you honestly say you made a difference in the world and did your "best"?  Can you live with no regrets?  Can you empower others and really LIVE through ACTION to be the best soul you are?  Or are you a waste of skin?  I believe we all have a passion and have some sort of intelligence or passion..The difference is some of us use our strengths, work on our opportunities and keep pushing forward.

Think about it.  Creating Connections is truly an art form..Keep an open mind, don't pass judgement and just see how far you can reach.
